Plastic and reconstructive surgery is the most unique specialty in medicine- I am a little biased, obviously! But let me explain.

Plastic surgery applies to any part of the body. Wherever there is tissue, there is potential for a plastic and reconstructive surgery intervention. From head to toe, from skin surface to the inside of the chest cavity, plastic surgeons could be needed to operate.

Although cosmetic surgery is a huge part of plastic surgery -and one of my absolute favorites!- but the territory of plastic surgery expands way beyond cosmetic surgery. Hand surgery, craniofacial surgery, microsurgery, reconstructive surgery and gender affirming surgery are some of the other fields that plastic surgeons are trained on and operate.

Plastic surgery takes advantage of both science and art. This gives plastic surgeons a unique opportunity for creativity and innovation. That is why every procedure could be done in many different ways and a skilled plastic surgeon would be able to “design” an operation that fits each patient.

In addition, plastic and reconstructive surgery gives us the opportunity to enhance the quality of life of patients who are usually otherwise in good health, and our care can help them boost their confidence and enjoy a better personal and social life.

I hope this is convincing enough to explain why from all the opportunities out there in medicine, I decided to become a plastic surgeon!

You probably didn’t know, but Google is a medical school dropout who decided to get its feet wet in IT and I would say it did pretty well! That means as mazing as Google is, it may not be your best consultant for medical advice, specially in plastic surgery.

So, here, my goal is to help you get more educated about plastic surgery, learn based on evidence (not rumors and trends) and eventually be able to make informed decisions that will give you the best and safest outcomes.
