Lip Rejuvenation

Facial rejuvenation is one of my most favorite areas of cosmetic surgery!

When consulting patients for facial rejuvenation, I assess the face in a systematic manner. Face is divided into three areas horizontally and 5 areas vertically. This will help us to look at the face as a whole and maintain the facial harmony during the process of facial rejuvenation .

Lips are one of the main focal points of the face. They attract attention while we talk and they are essential part of our body language and physical intimacy. They also are significantly affected by aging. Facial aging is a combination of change in the quality of tissue, volume and skin laxity. All these factors are important in lip aging too. As we age, lips lose volume, upper lip skin elongates (due to gravity and increased tissue laxity) and we also see more fine wrinkles around the mouth (more prominent if fair skin, smokers or those with history of sun damage).

There are different methods to address lip aging including non-invasive or invasive approaches. Each method, targets a different aspect of lip aging.

Lets review some of the frequently used methods for lip rejuvenation:

Non-invasive (non-surgical):

  • Lip fillers

  • Neurotoxins (Botox)

  • Skin resurfacing

Invasive (surgical)

  • Upper lip lift

  • Lip implants

There are different indications, pros and cons to each method that need to be considered before considering any treatments.

It is also possible that someone would be a candidate for more than one treatment depending on needs and goals.

Over the next few posts, I will go over each method briefly so you can get a better idea of what would be a good fit for your goals.
