Reasons to get lip lift surgery
One of the most prevalent reasons to get a lip lift surgery is to create a more youthful appearance. The upper lip typically elongates with age, creating more space between the bottom of the nose and the top of the mouth. As a result, the red part of the lip rolls inside the mouth and makes it look thinner. It also hides the front teeth with smiling. Fine vertical lines may form as the lips thin and the skin loses elasticity. All these contribute to the aging of the upper lip, which plays a substantial role in the facial aging process.
A lip lift surgery helps to achieve aesthetic goals by enhancing the volume of the upper lip. The volume is augmented by everting the red lip that has been inverted, and by repurposing the tissue that already exists (but is in the wrong place!). This surgical procedure creates shapelier, fuller and more youthful-looking lips. A lip lift often provides a more natural-looking option than injectable fillers. However, it can be combined with fillers in select cases.
How a lip lift gives you a more youthful look
A strip of excess skin is removed from the incision made at the base of the nose during the lip lift procedure. As the space is lifted, a section of the upper lip rolls out, exposing more of the red area. When the incision is closed, the skin around the upper lip is tightened, minimizing the fine vertical lines, shortening the distance between the nose and red lip, and showing the teeth normally. The reduced lines and fuller lip create a more youthful appearance.

What is the procedure for having a lip lift?
One technique for achieving more youthful lips is to make an incision along the crease at the base of the nose and remove the excess skin. The procedure typically takes less than an hour to complete in our office and requires local anesthesia.
It can also be combined with other facial rejuvenation procedures such as facelifts and be done under anesthesia.
How long is the recovery time after a lip lift?
Most patients report minimal pain during the recovery process. The stitches are left in place for 1 week, camouflaged by the crease under the nose. Initially, there may be slight bruising and swelling. You might notice a light pink scar at the incision for a few months, but it's easily hidden with normal makeup coverage.
