“I Grew 1.5 Inches Taller in 2.5 months!” - a True Story!

A few days ago, one of my patients sent me a message on Instagram and sent me this:

She had a breast reduction over two months ago and now she is 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) taller!!

That’s true! She is not slouching anymore because of the heaviness of her chest! So, she is standing taller!

Many women have a hard time defeating gravity and standing up straight because of the heaviness of their breasts.

This has been studied and proved by scientific articles that breast reduction improves posture as early as the day after surgery!

One of many studies that show the significant impact of breast reduction on posture and quality of life of women by Lessard MD et al.

In the above photos, you can see a study that shows an average of 5 degrees improvement in kyphosis 6 weeks after surgery (standing 5 degrees straighter = standing taller!)

This is a life changing functional surgery - that also improves the shape and appearance of the breast.

Unfortunately, there are still insurance companies - such as Oregon Health Plan (OHP) - who ignore the overwhelming evidence regarding efficacy and impact of breast reduction and delay patient care.

It is unfortunate to see many patients undergoing multiple spinal surgeries for back pain when all they needed was a breast reduction!

I’m glad to see women with heavy breasts advocating for their wellbeing at younger ages and seeking breast reduction to prevent some permanent damages to their body!

A couple of weeks ago, I had 3 young patients for breast reduction in one day,: one was for her preop appointment, one for her postop visit and the other one was undergoing surgery that day.

What was interesting was that they were all between 17- 22 yo and their mothers had this surgery at younger age and were so happy with the results that they encouraged their daughters to get this surgery and avoid the long-term complications that come with living with large breasts (breast hypertrophy).
